A web-voice plumbing demo with clear controls

A visitor may want to speak with Ava in the browser but needs to understand microphone access, call status and how to end the session.

01

The decision to make first

A visitor may want to speak with Ava in the browser but needs to understand microphone access, call status and how to end the session. Provide explicit start and end controls, a visible AI-demo label and a text alternative for visitors who cannot or prefer not to use voice.

02

What the handoff should contain

Show connection state, microphone permission state, remaining demonstration limit and the business profile currently selected for the session.

03

Suggested wording to approve

Example wording: “Start the microphone only when you are ready to try the fictional demonstration. You can end the session at any time or use the text version instead.”

04

Test the difficult case

Test denied microphone permission, a disconnected headset, a network interruption and an intentional end action from the visitor. Do not activate the microphone on page load or leave the interface showing an active call after the voice connection has ended.

05

Worked example

Fictional example: The visitor denies microphone permission, then chooses text. The page should explain the failed voice start and preserve access to the text demonstration without repeatedly requesting audio. When a later voice session ends, the microphone and call-state controls must reflect that end rather than leaving the visitor unsure whether listening continues.

06

Review it in operation

Review failed starts separately from conversation outcomes so connection problems are not mistaken for poor assistant responses.
