Webhook handoffs for plumbing call summaries

A webhook can move a call summary to another system, but the receiving service must know that the request is authentic and how to handle repeats.

01

The decision to make first

A webhook can move a call summary to another system, but the receiving service must know that the request is authentic and how to handle repeats. Use an authenticated receiving endpoint with a defined schema, stable event identity and a clear failure response before enabling delivery.

02

What the handoff should contain

Specify event type, request identifier, permitted summary fields, delivery timestamp and the receiving owner; keep secrets outside the payload content.

03

Suggested wording to approve

Example wording: “The webhook carries a request summary for processing. A delivered event should not be described to the caller as an accepted job or confirmed booking.”

04

Test the difficult case

Test an invalid signature or credential, a repeated event and a malformed field using approved test records and inspect the receiver’s behavior. Do not make a public unauthenticated endpoint that accepts arbitrary customer records simply because the first demonstration worked.

05

Worked example

Fictional example: Send one valid fictional event twice, then send the same shape with an invalid authentication value. The receiver should avoid duplicate business work for the repeat and reject the unauthenticated request. The review concerns the actual receiving behavior, not merely whether the sender logged a successful HTTP connection.

06

Review it in operation

Review delivery failures without copying sensitive payloads into broad logs, and make the receiving owner responsible for unresolved events.
