Testing a calendar connection before plumbing bookings

A calendar login can succeed while the assistant still uses the wrong schedule, timezone or appointment category for customer requests.

01

The decision to make first

A calendar login can succeed while the assistant still uses the wrong schedule, timezone or appointment category for customer requests. Treat authorization as the beginning of testing and require a complete request-to-confirmation exercise before advertising live booking.

02

What the handoff should contain

Verify calendar identity, timezone, working hours, service duration, buffers, conflict handling and the record shown to staff after confirmation.

03

Suggested wording to approve

Example wording: “Live booking is available only for the schedule and service categories that have passed testing. Other requests will be reviewed by the office.”

04

Test the difficult case

Test an open slot, a closed period, a conflicting request and a canceled test booking, checking both caller wording and calendar state. Do not infer readiness from an OAuth success screen or a vendor logo; the actual appointment must appear correctly in the intended calendar.

05

Worked example

Fictional example: The calendar authorization succeeds, but the selected calendar is a technician’s personal schedule rather than the approved service calendar. A test booking should expose the mismatch before callers receive confirmations. The correct connection must also respect hours, duration and conflict rules; a login success screen does not establish those behaviors.

06

Review it in operation

Review calendar errors after every scheduling-rule change and temporarily return to request capture if the confirmed-booking path becomes unreliable.
