Answering plumbing price questions honestly

A caller may press for a definite repair price before the business has enough information to assess the work.

01

The decision to make first

A caller may press for a definite repair price before the business has enough information to assess the work. Use approved charge information only and clearly separate a published fee, an indicative starting point and a quote requiring staff review.

02

What the handoff should contain

Capture the requested service, known scope limits, the price question and the staff contact responsible for confirming applicable charges.

03

Suggested wording to approve

Example wording: “I can share the approved fee information, but I cannot confirm a repair price from this intake. The office will explain the applicable scope and charges.”

04

Test the difficult case

Test a caller comparing competitors, one asking for a discount and one who interprets a callout fee as the total job price. Do not invent a discount, waive a fee or suggest that a starting price covers every part and labor condition.

05

Worked example

Fictional example: A customer hears a published assessment charge and asks whether that includes replacing a fixture. The answer should distinguish the approved assessment fee from a work quote. The record can carry the scope question to staff, but the assistant should not add an invented inclusive price or waive the assessment to secure the request.

06

Review it in operation

Review the exact wording behind price misunderstandings and align the assistant with the same information used by the office.
